Signs of Soul Loss

Many people I talk to say they don’t feel whole, they have no idea what their purpose is here, they often feel as if they don’t belong, they feel numb or wish they were. Few of us live as fully as we could because we’ve experienced traumas, abuse, shame and guilt in this lifetime and in previous ones.

For tens of thousands of years, shamanism has brought peace and healing to our ancestors, maybe even to us in a past life. Illness, disease, depression, or numbing ourselves out is often due to soul loss. We feel incomplete, unhappy; we want to go home.

Your soul is your essence, your spirit, a distinct entity separate from your physical body but necessary for life, just like breathing. In Shamanism, we believe parts of your soul, this incredible essence of YOU, can end up fragmented, broken, sick, and weary. Whenever we undergo trauma, a part of our essence separates from us in order to survive the experience by escaping the pain.

This is called soul loss. Soul loss can result because of disease, illness, loss of a loved one, abuse, miscarriage, surgery, addiction, extreme stress due to witnessing or being exposed to violence, being shamed or bullied.

Traumas in past lives also hold onto pieces of our soul. In a previous life, if you came up against extreme stress, accident, war, or physical or emotional turmoil, you may have left some of your soul in that lifetime.

Each of us has our own unique encounter with soul loss and retrieving those pieces of our essence is an equally unique journey.

Many of us are on various spiritual quests. We live in an amazing time when we have access to tools such as crystals, Reiki and other energy healing modalities, astrology, past life regression, and so much more. Oracle and tarot cards, numerology, sacred geometry, music frequencies, psychic development, and getting in touch with our spirit through meditation, ancestral connection, and practices such as yoga, add to our well-being.

Many modern day shamans, like myself, incorporate these tools, as well as more traditional aides. We venture into the spirit world, working with the Upper and Lower World teachers and guardians, incorporating cosmic, angelic, nature, and devic helpers to assist people with healing, to get in touch with their animal totems, spirit guides, and ancestors, and to retrieve those lost pieces of their soul so they can feel whole again and empowered.

The journey to soul retrieval and healing takes time and dedication, but the rewards are many. To start, look at this checklist of indicators of soul loss I’ve listed below to see if any has occurred for you. If you answer yes to any of them, essential parts of your core self may not be available to you. You’ve experienced soul loss. You are cut off from the vital energy and potential gifts those lost parts contain. The lost parts exist in what shamans refer to as “nonordinary reality”. For me, they can exist in the spirit world, different dimensions, and parallel universes.

My journey this year in the healing arts is to understand soul loss and retrieval fully and assist those who’ve experienced it and want to explore bringing all of their parts back together again. I’ve completed my 150-hour training, and I have more education and training calling to me. I have created a soul sessions program and I’m excited to use it to help others.

One tip I have today for anyone who has repetitive memories of traumas rising from their subconscious and creating stress is to envision a beautiful stream of white or gold healing light coming from the heavens. Each time the memory surfaces, encapsulate yourself in this light and once you’re fully wrapped in it, send the stream through space and time to your younger self. Bath your past spirit, body, mind, and heart in this light of unconditional love and compassion.

Next, extend the light to the others involved in the situation. Continue to stream healing to everyone and the circumstances. If you can, forgive yourself and the others involved. If forgiveness isn’t an option at this time, send grace. If you repeat this exercise each time the memory surfaces, it will change the energy surrounding the trauma and allow the memory to fade.
